A Gay Guide to Bogotá
Discover why Bogotá is fast becoming a top LGBTQ+ destination.
A Gay Guide to Bogotá
Bogotá, Colombia’s bustling capital, is a diverse city with a thriving and ever-growing LGBTQ+ scene. Known for its inclusivity and vibrant culture, Bogotá is home to progressive laws, including same-sex marriage, and hosts major pride events like the annual Marcha de la Diversidad. With rich history, world-famous queer nightclubs and dining options to please every palate, Bogotá makes for an incredible gay-friendly holiday destination.
LGBTQ+ Hotspots
Bogotá’s LGBTQ+ scene centers around Chapinero, the city’s gay district. The legendary Theatron, one of the largest gay clubs in the world, is a must-visit, offering 13 themed rooms that cater to every musical taste. A more relaxed eveningcan be found in El Recreo de Adán, which is perfect for drinks, games, and a laid-back vibe, while Plaza Lourdes serves as a popular spot where the local gay community likes to mingle.
Dining in Bogotá
Bogotá’s diversity also extends to its food scene. Capital Cocina y Café is a trendy spot in La Candelaria known for its farm-to-table Colombian dishes with a modern twist. Capitalino Restaurant (inside the Grand Hyatt) offers a chic dining experience with international cuisine and local flavors, perfect for those keen for a more stylish evening out.
For something slightly more lively, Andrés D.C. in the Zona T area is one of our must-visits—part restaurant, part party, it’s a colorful, multi-level experience where food, music, and dancing all collide.
Culture and Exploration
Bogotá has no shortage of culture to dive into. La Candelaria, the city’s historic district, is filled with colorful streets, colonial architecture, and important landmarks. It’s also home to the Museo del Oro (Gold Museum) where you can see extensive collections of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts. Alternatively, Museo Botero offers a diverse range of art exhibitions. Here you can admire Fernando Botero’s works, characterised by his distinctive style of exaggeration and distortion.
For breathtaking views of the city, head up to Monserrate, a mountain that offers stunning panoramas of the capital. We’d recommend going in the evening for truly gorgeous sunsets over the city.
Whether it’s the dynamic nightlife, rich history, or delicious food, Bogotá is a fantastic destination for any LGBTQ+ traveler.
