Istanbul has a long tradition of Turkish baths, or hamams, some of which have become popular meeting places for gay men. While the city doesn't have the same gay sauna scene as destinations like Berlin or London, there are several male-only bathhouses that attract a gay clientele.
Aquarius Sauna, Yeşildirek Hamam and Hamam 58 are among the better-known gay-popular options, providing traditional bathing facilities, saunas and massage services.
Istanbul is also home to historic Turkish baths such as Galatasaray Hamamı and Cağaloğlu Hamamı, where visitors can experience traditional Ottoman bathing rituals in impressive architectural surroundings. These are conventional public baths rather than gay cruising venues.
Discretion is important in Istanbul's gay sauna scene, particularly given the increased pressure on LGBTQ+ venues in Turkey.
